Nothing beats a good candle. They provide a multi-sensory sensation of warmth, light, fragrance, and color. They can transform a bathroom into a spa, or a house into a home. Commercially-bought candles, however, are expensive, temporary, and limited in scents. Making homemade candles is a wonderful way to make any space feel cozy. It’s a surprisingly easy and rewarding process, that will warm any home.
ACQUIRING THE MATERIALS
All you need to make functional, homemade candles are wax, wicks, and containers. You can get all the materials you need from candlescience. Or, Amazon has candle making kits you may be interested in. Instructions on how to make your candle can be found here. It really couldn’t be any easier.
You can get wax in a variety of types (soy, paraffin, beeswax etc.), and colors depending on your aesthetic desires. As for the container, it’s important to pick a heat-resistant material you can pour hot wax into. Mason jars and tins are common choices, but feel free to get creative.
CUSTOMIZING YOUR SCENT
You don’t technically need to add scent to a candle if you don’t want to, but that’s where the real fun begins. Additionally, studies have shown that aromatherapy improves your mood and lowers anxiety, lending credence to the age-old belief that a spa day is good for relaxation.
Essential oils are a great option for aromatherapy applications in your candles, and synthetically produced fragrance oils let you create a blend of smells that is truly unique. Find some inspiration here.Back to all posts
