Color Theory 101: Apartment Decor

painting a wall

If you’re looking to liven up your apartment units, a color change may be very influential. Here are some of the latest trends in interior coloring, and how they can affect the mood of your multifamily community.

Get Your Ratio Right

Many people believe the mood of a room is dependent on the color of the walls. In reality, the accent colors play a huge role as well. According to Erika Woelfel, when quoted in Multifamily Executive, you should space out a room’s coloration with 60% being allocated to the walls, 30% to furniture and window treatments, and 10% toward pillows and artwork.

Size & Temperature

Colors can do more than impress our eyes, they can also add a mood and a feel to a room. One of the most noticeable effects is its impact on the perceived size of a space. For example, sky blues create a refreshing and open feel while a maroon may close the space but also introduce a cozy vibe.

Exteriors Matter Too

When expressing yourself in your multifamily community, don’t consider just the interior, it can be quite effective as well to consider the color of the outside. If you are going for a traditional vibe, pure white is a great choice for a timeless feel. If you want to stand out, you can do well by going with a bold coloring such as green or navy blue.
